Coquitlam Teacher Honoured in Ottawa
OTTAWA – Greg
Miyagana, a history teacher from Coquitlam, was presented with the
Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History
in Ottawa today. Local MP James Moore joined Miyagana at Rideau
Hall for the award presentation.
The official
awards presentation took place at Rideau Hall this morning, and for
the first time in the eleven year history of the Awards, the
recipients were also officially recognized in the House of Commons
during Question Period as guests of the Speaker of the House.
“The teaching of
history is crucial to a healthy curriculum,” says Moore. “And I
know all Tri-City residents are proud to have some the finest
teachers in our school district, in particular Greg Miyagana.”
