$420,000 to Maillardville from Ottawa
OTTAWA
-
Canada’s Conservative government has invested $420,000 to revitalize
Maillardville and prepare the Municipality for the 2010 Olympic and
Paralympic Winter Games, including developing tourism and business
opportunities. “The 2010 Games will offer opportunities for all
Canadians, and I’m doing my part to ensure the positive effects of
the Games are felt in the Tri-Cities,” says local MP James Moore,
who is the Parliamentary Secretary for the 2010 Olympic and
Paralympic Games.
The project will support beautification efforts to the commercial
street (Brunette Avenue) using a French Canadian theme as well as
upgrades to the historical level (Laval Square) of the Maillardville
area. “Maillardville has a rich francophone history that should be
supported and sustained,” says Moore.
Western Economic Diversification is contributing $320,000 to the
project, and Heritage Canada is providing $100,000 in funding under
the
Interdepartmental Partnership with the Official-Language Communities
program.
The newly renovated heritage district of Maillardville will provide
better opportunities for tourism and business attraction in
preparation for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Using a
French-Canadian theme, the historical area Laval Square and Brunette
Avenue will help build bridges between generations and cultures.
